Big Sheds: More than a Garden Shed

Big Sheds is our Easyshed division that designs and manufactures sheds, barns, horse stables, and anything larger than our standard garden and garage range. We take pride in our expertise in manufacturing high-quality sheds designed to meet your customer’s discerning needs; all built specifically for your location.

With ShedSafe accreditation, you can put your worries at ease with the knowledge that our designs are compliant with the Building Code of Australia.

Ensuring Clarity

We often get enquiries about recommended shed installers. Before we go into the intricacies of shed installation, it's important to clarify that Easyshed Big Sheds specialises in shed kit manufacturing. We do not offer installation services. Our focus is on crafting top-notch quality sheds tailored to your requirements that are easy enough to build yourself.

In this blog, we'll explore the nuances of shed installation, share valuable insights, and offer recommendations - all while highlighting what sets our Big Sheds apart in the world of shed manufacturing.

The Installer Kerfuffle

When it comes to shed installation, we often encounter customers who seek guidance. While we understand the importance of finding a reliable installer, we want to make it clear that we don’t do the installation ourselves so there’s no confusion and that expectations are properly set.

Factors to Consider

You can start with asking around in your area for local tradies if you’re looking for shed installers. Hop online and check out local groups on socials, run a quick Google search, or visit websites like hipages.com.au.

Experiences with builders and professionals vary and while we’re unable to speak of seamless guarantees about the work, there are plenty of platforms where you can connect with various professionals who can be of assistance.

What makes a good builder, you ask? Let’s go over some of the essential factors.

Tools and Equipment

Ask about the tools they have. Do they have ladders and specialised equipment?

From something as simple as a podger used for aligning holes and preventing overtightening bolts, to scissor lifts that provide a stable platform that allow builders to reach heights with ease or transport materials. Do they own the tools? Or would they be renting them out and incur additional costs?

Ensure that the installer has access to the necessary heavy machinery, small cranes, tools like augers for digging holes, and others that your specific shed type might need. Having the right equipment for the project is crucial in ensuring that the installation goes without a hitch.

Our Big Sheds experts can also talk you through the tools of the trade, feel free to ask while going over your shed plans.

Certification

While shed building doesn't require specific certifications, you have to make sure that your builder has a significant amount of experience and knowledge of what you’re expecting them to do. Ask about completed projects and get to know more about their background. Get them to send some photographs of their last 5 shed projects to see how they turned out.

Most experienced builders have taken to online platforms and social media to promote their work and will have photos, videos, and other necessary documentation ready for you to review.

Reach out to them and strike up a conversation. It pays to know who will be handling and assembling your shed and what their qualifications are.

Specific Requirements

If you have specific requirements for your shed project, ensure that the installer has the expertise to carry them out. You might need to consult more than one professional if you’re also looking to have electricity or wiring installed, solar panels, vermin proofing, or plumbing.

Construction Techniques

Talk about their construction methods. See if they have any handy tricks like flipping the Z section to double as a place where you can hang tool holders, maximising function and use!

Another helpful tidbit would be to use a rebated concrete slab for a neater and a more watertight finish. The installer should know how to pay careful attention to ensure that everything is level, and that there are no air bubbles in the cement used for foundations.

Never substitute time for quality.

To install or have someone install? That is the question.

While Big Sheds specialises in manufacturing exceptional Aussie-made steel sheds, we understand the importance of finding a reliable installer and seeing to it that your shed goes up without a hitch.

What do our customers prefer? We have an even 50/50 split. Some of our customers are experienced in shed construction and know exactly what they want and how they want it done when they come to us for shed plans and manufacturing. The other half prefer to let tradies and builders do the heavy lifting.

Shed installation can be a complex process and while daunting, it’s not impossible for a complete novice. If you’ve never bought a shed before, we strongly recommend checking out our DIY VS Turnkey Solutions blog. We talk about pointers that will help nudge you in the right direction and answer any reservations you may have about whether to go at it yourself or to look for a builder.

Oh, and one last nugget of wisdom!

Remember that a good shed builder is often a busy one, so patience is key to securing their schedule and availability. Before reaching out to a builder, ensure that you have everything ready to go to avoid delays and any inconvenience.

Cheers!
